Denver’s Sauna makes catchy landlocked surf-punk songs

Few cities better meet the definition of “land-locked” than Denver, unless you count the Platte River, and let’s be honest: you don’t. Undeterred by the lack of a shoreline in the Mile High City, the teenage members of Denver quartet Sauna refer to themselves as “no coast surf punx,” and they’re honing a sound to match.

After only a year together, the band can boast of having opened for Tennis (also a Denver group), Thee Oh Sees and the B-52′s, and of having recorded “Rad Shit!,” an 8-song digital release, and “The Teen Angst Tape,” a 4-song EP. Both are full of tunes awash in reverb, stinging surfy guitar licks and the exuberant insolence of punk-rock youth.

Both releases are available via bandcamp.
