Marvelous Darlings give away song from new collection of singles due Nov. 22

Not only did Fucked Up release one of this year’s coolest albums with “David Comes to Life,” even the Canadian ensemble’s side projects sound great. For example, the Marvelous Darlings.

Co-founded in 2007 by Matt Delong and Ben Cook, who would join Fucked Up on guitar the following year, the Marvelous Darlings have spent the intervening years releasing a series of 7-inch singles and playing a handful of shows, several of which have led to bans from various Toronto venues, if the band’s press bio can be believed (and there’s at least a 50 percent chance it can’t).

What is certainly true is that the Marvelous Darlings are releasing “Single Life,” a compilation of those various long-out-of-print singles. It’s an essential collection of chaotic punk-leaning power-pop, starting with free song “I Don’t Wanna Go to the Party,” which is loud, snotty and super totally catchy. You may  need a moment to catch your breath when it’s over.

“Single Life” is out Nov. 22 on Deranged Records.

  1. Marvelous Darlings is a “Fucked Up side project”… even though Marvelous Darlings had formed before Ben Cook joined Fucked Up as an extra guitar player?? Sheesh.

  2. Which one do you suppose he spends more time doing? We’re gonna say that one is his main gig, regardless of when it began.
