Big Star streams songs from new Alex Chilton tribute EP

Because there’s no such thing as too much Big Star, you should go here right now to stream the three-song “Live Tribute to Alex Chilton” EP, featuring John Davis, that came out today.

No lie: the songs sound flat-out spectacular. Read more Big Star coverage here, here and here.

  1. Yes, as “In Space” already proved, there definitely IS such a thing as “too much Big Star.” With releases like this, Jody Stephens is trashing the Big Star name just as badly as Mike Love has been trashing the Beach Boys name for years.

  2. Not sure how paying tribute to Alex Chilton trashes the Big Star name (or is in any way comparable to Mike Love still pretending to be in the Beach Boys), but there you go.

  3. Dear Trash Flow Radio, I agree that the In Space album was gratuitous, and the best songs came from Jon and Ken. However, Jody and the rest of the Ardent gang have done a spectacular job in keeping the Big Star spirit alive and honoring Alex in the process. John Davis is one of the forebears of Big Star’s unique brand of rock and a Tennessean to boot. He has the utmost respect, along with Jody, Ken and Jon, for Big Star, Alex Chilton, Chris Bell and everything great that those names signify. There is no comparison between a worthy and electrifying tribute and Mike Love’s Beach Boys parody troupe.
