Trent Fox & the Tenants revel in trashy garage-rock on Milwaukee band’s new EP

It’s catchy, trashy and from Milwaukee: it’s “Mess Around” from Trent Fox & the Tenants, a jaunty quartet of garage-rockers and operators of the basement venue The Vault.

The song — lean, serrated and a little dangerous, with an infectious yeah-yeah-yeah refrain — is the title track (and opening number) from a new five-song 7-inch EP, due Feb. 22 on Kind Turkey. Truth be told, all five songs are killer garage-rock rave-ups, full of scuzzy guitar, cacophonous drums and snotty lyrics about memorable ex-girlfriends, mom jokes and scoring with that fetching older woman from around the way.

“Mess Around” comes with screen printed, hand-numbered artwork and, for 100 lucky purchasers, vinyl in the distinctive yellow and green colors of the Green Bay Packers, in honor of the team’s kick-ass 2010 season.

Kind Turkey promises a Trent Fox tour is in the offing, though Wisconsin fans have their choice of EP release shows in Madison, Milwaukee, Appleton and Green Bay.
