Algodón Egipcio makes lo-fi electro on free song from debut LP, due in March

Xiu Xiu and the Spice Girls are two bands you rarely see mentioned together as influences, Algodón Egipcio (yep, that translates to “Egyptian Cotton”)  lists each among his inspirations on MySpace.

And it kind of fits. The Venezuelan act fronted by Cheky Bertho makes lo-fi electronica, with booming beats absorbed by the swirling layers of noise that also envelop his synthesizer parts and echoing vocals.

It’s an intriguing, mesmerizing sound on “El Ingenio Humano,” the free song from Egipcio’s forthcoming debut, “La Lucha Constante.” The album is due March 22 on Lefse Records.
