After dropping an excellent debut last year, Jana Hunter’s new band Lower Dens starts off the new year with “Batman,” a catchy new single.

Hunter formed the band in 2009 after a pair of solo albums and a series of collaborations with the likes of Devendra Banhart and Castanets. Lower Dens started as her backing band before evolving into a more collaborative entity, which resulted last summer in the album “Twin Hand Movement.”

The swift, murky new single, backed with a somber, piano-based cover of Mayo Thompson’s “Dear Betty Baby,” is out Jan. 18 on Gnomonsong. Check here for a pair of songs from “Twin Hand Movement.”
