Pains of Being Pure at Heart stream first song from forthcoming second LP

There was something charmingly handmade about the Pains of Being Pure at Heart’s self-titled first album in 2009, a record with a warm, buzzy, lo-fi sound.

Sounds like they’ve upgraded for the follow-up. “Heart in Your Heartache,” the first song from the band’s forthcoming second LP, sounds gigantic, with dreamy vocals and pulsing keyboards alongside the fuzz-tone guitar. As you’d expect, it’s catchy as hell, and the production is cleaner and more balanced, thanks to Flood, who’s worked on albums by U2 and Smashing Pumpkins.

The single, b/w “The One,” comes out Dec. 14. The album, “Belong,” is scheduled for release March 11.
