Vivian Girls’ Kickball Katy preps catchy lo-fi single from new project, La Sera

All that volatile rocking out in Vivian Girls wasn’t quite enough for Katy Goodman, who evidently has a softer side. She indulges it, and us, via La Sera, a dreamy lo-fi pop project influenced by the sound of ’50s girl-group pop hits.

After spending much of 2009 on tour, Goodman began tinkering with ideas for La Sera in February of this year, then spent time fleshing them out with Vivian Girls videographer/music producer Brady Hall, who signed on to play drums and keyboards and sing.

Now La Sera is sharing the results with “Never Come Around,” the group’s debut single, which will also appear on a debut LP to be released early next year on Hardly Art. The song is full of hazy, ethereal vocals, fuzzed-over guitar jangle and spare, rumbling drums, in best garage-girl fashion. It’s available Nov. 16 b/w “Behind Your Eyes,” or you can hear it right now.
