True Womanhood returns with free song from impending ‘Ghost Modern’ LP

Last spring, we told you about Washington D.C. trio True Womanhood, which had recently released its debut EP, “Basement Membranes.”

Now the group is readying a full-length, “Ghost Modern,” recorded and mixed in Baltimore by Jawbox singer J. Robbins.

It’s a step forward, judging by free song “Dream Cargoes.” The tune is sleek and dark, with relentless rhythms pushing indigo bass, gleaming guitars and atmospheric vocals from Thomas Redmond that alternate between dreamy and menacing.

No word yet when the full album is due, but a pair of songs from the Robbins sessions, “Last Rites” and “Chatter,” will see daylight on a 7-inch single from Environmental Aesthetics Recordings and Sockets Records.

True Womanhood also has at least a pair of shows planned for this year’s CMJ festival, happening next month in New York.
