Vaselines announce first album in 20 years, ‘Sex With an X,’ due in September

Yesterday we told you about Versus, a New York band releasing its first album in a decade. That’s no time time at all compared to the Vaselines, who are releasing their first album in two decades.

The influential Scottish indie-pop band (Kurt Cobain was a fan) released its only full-length LP, “Dum Dum,” in 1990, which coincided with the group’s break up four years after forming. Core duo Eugene Kelly and Frances McKee performed together publicly in 2006 for the first time since the band broke up, then played a charity show in 2008 before mounting a full-on, if short, reunion tour last year (Listen, Dammit, caught their show in Brooklyn).

Conveniently enough, the tour coincided with the Sub Pop retrospective “Enter the Vaselines,” a reissue of the 1992 collection “The Way of the Vaselines,” which compiled remastered versions of “Dum Dum]” and two EPs, with assorted live recordings from the band’s first incarnation. Sub Pop releases the new album, “Sex With an X,” Sept. 14.

In exchange for your e-mail address, the band offers the first single, “I Hate the 80′s,” for free:
