UK trio Peggy Sue delves into spooky Americana on free song from debut LP

It’s not an unusual obsession among English musicians, but Peggy Sue does spooky Americana better than most.

The trio from Brighton, UK, makes slightly harrowing music that sounds like it’s coming from a shotgun shack lit by a single bare bulb on a black night.

On “Watchman,” from their forthcoming full-length debut, Rosa Rex and Katy Klaw play dark, loping guitar parts and sing harmonies that have a antiquated feel, while drummer Oily plays percussion parts that live up to his name.

“Fossils and Other Phantoms” is due June 1 on Yep Roc.
