World Atlas previews upcoming debut with free song, ‘The Winter Stories’

Few things in life beat a well-constructed pop song, and we’re not talking about hollow Top-40 jams written with mass consumption in mind. We’re talking about songs like “The Winter Stories” by World Atlas.

It’s from the New York band’s self-titled debut, due March 9 on Magic Marker Records. The group started in 2006 as the four-track bedroom pop project of Brian Broux, who expanded his simple homemade demos into a full-on band that now includes guitar, piano, strings and lovely hushed vocals.

There’s a subtle old-school folk-r0ck thing happening here (the press bio mentions Donovan), underneath a more contemporary indie-pop vibe. Whatever it is, it’s catchy as hell.
