Brooklyn six-piece Kittens Ablaze adds strings to lively indie-rock sound

With so much music to sift through, it’s easy to overlook deserving bands. For example: Kittens Ablaze, the first in Listen, Dammit’s, catalog of Bands You May Have Missed This Year.

The Brooklyn sextet plays robust, speedy indie-rock with the usual format — guitar, bass, drums — augmented by violin and cello for a lively and appealing on-the-verge-of-chaos aesthetic.

After a debut EP in 2007, the band released “The Monstrous Vanguard,” its first full-length, in 2009.
