Exene Cervenka readises first solo album in nearly 20 years with pair of free songs

No one would have quibbled if she had taken some time off after her diagnosis of multiple sclerosis earlier this year, but punk singer Exene Cervenka doesn’t seem to have slowed down at all.

She toured with X, then did some solo shows and now she is ready with her first solo album since 1991.

X has always dabbled in country and old-school rock ‘n’ roll, and Cervenka takes that impulse even further on “Somewhere Gone,” a collection of intimate-sounding folk-esque songs that are more subdued without losing the intense focus she has always conveyed.

The album is out Oct. 6 on Bloodshot.
