Cleveland duo mr. Gnome all about contrasts on songs from new album
Cleveland duo mr. Gnome is a study in contrasts: Ghostly, sweet female vocals paired with terse, gritty guitars and clattering drums. It’s earned the band tags such as “Cat Power fronting Death From Above 1979.”
It also makes for a compelling sound on the first two songs from the group’s second album, “Heave Yer Skeleton,” due in November. Singer/guitarist Nicole Barile and singer/drummer Sam Meister recorded the songs earlier this year at Josh Homme’s Pink Duck studio in L.A.
They’re clearly in touch with the zeitgeist: one of the new songs is called “Vampires.”
